Male Bonding Closing At The Collective Art Tank
7 to 10 pm Friday Fundraising Event Supports Project Real
The Collective Art Tank will host Last Chance, a closing fundraiser in support of Project REAL, a nonprofit support community center located at Fourth Avenue and Memorial Drive that offers programs to the larger LGBTQ youth community.
The Bangs Avenue gallery’s current show – Male Bonding celebrates gay male art through works by a diverse group of gay male artists, both local and non-local, working in a variety of media, said Lawrence Porter who curated the show with artist Billy Mecca.
“The last strictly gay-focused art exhibit in Asbury that either can remember was ‘Queer Gaze’ back in June 2012 at the now-closed Gallery 13 on Cookman Ave,” Porter said. “We are hosting a “Last Chance” closing party on June 29 that will include a silent auction of artwork created by a number of the participating artists participating.”
A minimum of 50 percent of all sales, as well as 10 percent of sales from the month-long show, will be donated to Project REAL, Porter said.
The show features works by Porter, local artists Tim Horn of Asbury Park, Billy Mecca of Loch Arbour, Richard Stabbert of Red Bank, James Vance of Asbury Park, and Dylan Wise of Jackson. Also on display are works by Nolan Grünwald of Queens, Matt Z. Kessler of Brooklyn, Cupid Ojala of Brooklyn, Levan Mindiashivili of Tbilisi, Georgia and Brooklyn, SPURV of Copenhagen and Barcelona, and Timid Knight of Alberta.
The Male Bonding Last Chance closing fundraiser will be held from 7 to 10 pm at The Collective Art Tank, located at 529 Bangs Ave. For more info visit @male_bonding_asburypark on Instagram.
