Man, 34, Arrested For Attempted Murder Of Girlfriend
OTPD: Suspect Attempted To Attend To Victim’s Stab Wounds
A 34-year-old township resident has been charged with the attempted murder of his girlfriend, Ocean Township Police Department announced Friday.
Luis J. Plaza is charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, officials said.
Detectives responded to Jersey Shore University Medical Center call near 10:35 p.m. on Dec. 26, officials said. They were notified that a 27-year-old female arrived with stab wounds to the abdomen.
While limited information was obtained at that time, the victim alleged that the stabbing occurred during a robbery attempt in front of a township liquor store, officials said. The victim underwent surgery for her wounds and is in stable condition at Jersey Shore Medical Center.
Further investigation revealed that the alleged robbery report was false and that her boyfriend, later identified as 34-year-old Luis Plaza, stabbed her during a verbal altercation at their Twinbrook Village apartment on that same night, officials said. He attempted to attend to her wounds and ultimately drove her to the hospital without notification to the police or EMS.
Plaza was remanded to Monmouth County Jail pending an initial court appearance.
Detectives Gregory Martone, Jesse Orbach, Chris Brady, Dt. Sgt. Patrick Martin, and Officer Glennis Polanco investigated.
