Man arrested following May 17 incident of shots fired
Brick man not a suspect, cops say
Police apprehended a man who was in possession of a handgun following a report of shots fired on May 17, but they found that he was not involved in that incident.
“He was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when the shots were fired,” Police Captain Anthony Salerno said.
Police Officer William Whitley heard shots fired at 2:30 a.m. on May 17 and several cars responded to the area, Salerno said. When the police arrived, they searched the area. Whitley saw a handgun sticking out of a man’s pocket, Salerno said, and arrested the man.
The subject was Dameion Edgerton, 33, who lives in Brick but is a former Asbury Park resident. Police also found Edgerton to be in possession of cocaine, Salerno said.
Police found that Edgerton had not fired the gun, Salerno said, so he is not a suspect in the incident of shots fired.
Edgerton was arrested and charged with possession of a handgun, unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a controlled dangerous substance [CDS], possession of CDS with intent to distribute, and possession of CDS in a school zone.
