Man charged in September 2012 murder of Jerome Wright
Suspect already incarcerated due to unrelated weapons charges
A Long Branch man has been charged with murder in the September 2012 death of Asbury Park native Jerome Wright.
Wright, 30, was shot outside the Atkins Avenue Deli, on Atkins Avenue across the street from the Boston Way Village, on Sept. 1, 2012. This was the first fatal shooting of that year.
Ronald Daniels, 23, of Long Branch, is being charged with murder and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose in connection with the case, Asbury Park Police Chief Mark Kinmon said.
“We were at a point where we were comfortable and had enough information to charge Ronald Daniels,” Kinmon said.
Daniels is currently incarcerated due to an unrelated weapons charge, Kinmon said. He was served with the charges last Wednesday, Feb. 20, in prison, Kinmon said.
Following Wright’s death, friends and family members remembered him with balloons and posters in front of a building near where he was shot [pictured above]. They remembered him as a kind person, nicknamed Pretty Boy because of his tendency to dress up. For a full story on his death last year, click here.
