Update: New Year’s Eve Stabbing Victim Identified

Public’s Help Sought In Finding Person of Interest

Raymundo Merino-Ruiz has been identified as the 27-year-old city man who died after being stabbed at a Sewall Avenue apartment on New Year’s Eve, according to news statement by Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni.

Working in conjunction with the Asbury Park Police Department, the Prosecutor’s office is still looking to speak with Fabian Vazquez-Quiroz, officials said in a written news statement. He is wanted for questioning only and no charges are pending.

Asbury Park police responded to an 11:05 p.m. emergency call reporting a victim was stabbed, officials said.

The victim, whose identity has not been released, was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune Township where he was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m, officials said.

This is an active and ongoing investigation, officials said.

Anonymous tips can be made via the Monmouth County Crime Stoppers confidential telephone tip-line 1-800-671-4400 or by texting “MONMOUTH” and the tip to 274637. Tips can also be sent via monmouthcountycrimestoppers.com.  

Monmouth County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of criminals and fugitives, officials said.
