Man shot, wounded outside St. Stephen Manor apartments
No arrests made; officers on foot patrol were nearby when shots fired
A 36-year-old male from Asbury Park was shot once and wounded last night just before 9 p.m. on the property of the St. Stephen Manor apartment complex on Prospect Avenue.
The victim was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center and his injuries are not life-threatening, said Police Chief Mark Kinmon. The victim was not a resident of the apartment complex.
Several uniformed walking patrol officers were in the area at the time of the shooting, Kinmon said. They heard the gun shots and responded right away.
No arrests have been made yet, although the department is “looking at a few things in terms of suspects,” Kinmon said.
This incident is “very unusual for that area” of the city, Kinmon said. Still, he urged residents of apartment complexes throughout Asbury Park to be vigilant and notify the department if they see anything unusual, especially non-residents loitering.
“A lot of the times, we see people that hang around the apartment complexes,” Kinmon said. “They’ll say they’re visiting and say they’re there for a legitimate reason and they’re really up to no good. We need to rely on residents [to know] names and faces of people who belong or don’t belong. We need them to get that information to us.”
