Marshall Jackson agency finds new partners, home on Cookman
Agency was forced out of previous location due to city zoning laws
A local advertising agency that was forced to vacate a first floor Cookman Avenue office space due to the city’s zoning laws has announced their return to a new space on the block.
Marshall Twinam, creative director, and Ian Jackson, managing partner, of Marshall Jackson & Partners advertising agency[MJP], have teamed up with Clark, NJ-based mobile technology company Gold Mobile and moved into a third floor office at 705 Cookman Avenue, above The Speakeatery Restaurant, according to a company news release.
“We love their creativity and saw a synergy between our two companies,” said Bob Gold, Gold’s chief executive officer and part-time Asbury Park resident. “It’s a 1-2 punch. They do the kind of work that gets consumer’s attention, we offer the technology that keeps them engaged. It’s a win-win for our clients and the consumer.”
“It’s a big win for us,” said Twinam. “We feel like we’re back in the big leagues and we couldn’t be more proud to be a part of their team.”
Twinam and Jackson had previously shared ground floor office space across the street from their new location with Image Tech Photo Studio and Kiss My Art art gallery but were informed they were in violation of the city’s zoning laws by a city zoning officer in June of 2013.
As per the Asbury Park Central Business District Redevelopment Plan, adopted in June 2003, offices are not a permitted use as a principal establishment on the ground floor of any space that fronts Cookman Avenue. None of the three businesses in the space had obtained a mercantile license, which would have triggered a formal review by the city’s zoning board.
The CBD plan came under some scrutiny after Twinam and Jackson marshaled support in an effort to have it amended, which caught the attention of at least one member of the City Council, but the plan remains unchanged.
“Well they told us we couldn’t reside on Cookman so I suppose we’ll just have to preside over it instead,” said Jackson.
