Master Plan Community Input Meetings Announced
City seeks comments on planning and development road map
The Asbury Park City Council has announced Community Input Meetings that will help to craft a Master Plan Reexamination Report.
Based on New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law [MLUL], established in 1975, a municipality’s Master Plan is not only a road map for planning and development but ultimately establishes the foundation for what is a permitted use within the city’s neighborhoods and rules that cover everything from sound and signage to design and height restrictions.
In Asbury Park’s 1.4 square mile community, there are six outlined redevelopment plans and , including the Waterfront Redevelopment Area [WRA], Central Business District [CBD], as well as its Main Street, Springwood Avenue, and Washington Avenue zones.
As the city begins the process of updating its 2006 Master Plan, it will look to hear from the community on everything from land use and historic preservation to economic development and sustainability.
“Everyone is welcomed to attend to assist in crafting a city wide vision to guide our built environment and resources,” said Michele Alonso, the municpality’s director of planning and redevelopment. “We want to hear from all residents because it is their city.”
The first meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 9 at Trinity Church gymnasium, located at 503 Asbury Ave.
The second meeting will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Asbury Park Senior Center, located at 1201 Springwood Ave.
