Master Plan Reexamination Next Steps Meeting
Public Input Sought At 6 p.m. Tuesday meeting in City Council Chambers
The public is invited to attend the next step meeting in the City’s Master Plan reexamination process currently underway in Asbury Park.
The meeting will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in City Council Chambers, located at 1 Municipal Plaza.
The administration held meetings in February and March that sought the public’s input as it began the reexamination of its 2006 Master Plan.
“Everyone is welcomed to attend to assist in crafting a city wide vision to guide our built environment and resources,” Michele Alonso, the municipality’s director of planning and redevelopment has said. “We want to hear from all residents because it is their city.”
Based on New Jersey Municipal Land Use Law [MLUL], established in 1975, a municipality’s Master Plan is not only a road map for planning and development but ultimately establishes the foundation for what is a permitted use within the city’s neighborhoods and rules that cover everything from sound and signage to design and height restrictions.
In Asbury Park’s 1.4 square mile community, there are redevelopment plans that outline what is permitted in a particular neighborhood. They include the Waterfront Redevelopment Area [WRA], Central Business District [CBD], Main Street, Springwood Avenue, and Washington Avenue zones.
The Tuesday meeting will include discussions of the drafted recommendations, with topics covering everything from land use historic preservation, and sustainability to open space, parks and recreation, economic development; community facilities, urban design, and circulation for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.
