Mayor’s Wellness Community Sets May Sights On Bikes
Community Events Being Held in Support of National Bike Month Recognition
In celebration of National Bike Month recognition, the Mayor’s Wellness Committee and its community partners have announced a series of educational and safety awareness events.
The community partners include the Asbury Park School District, Asbury Park Complete Streets Coalition, EZ Ride, High Voltage Cafe & Grocery, Second Life Bikes, words! Bookstore, and Zagster.
The events begin with Wednesday with a Bike Safety Talk for Students being held 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. at Barack Obama Elementary School and continue through month’s end with a Bikes, Books & Babies 4 p.m. May 31 event at words! Bookstore on Cookman Avenue.
Zagster, the city’s bicycle share administrator, will provide free membership for the entire month of May for all Asbury Park bike share riders. For more information, visit zagster.com.

9 a.m. & 1 p.m. Wednesday Bike Safety Talks for Students at Barack Obama Elementary School, located at 1300 Bangs Ave.
7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Thursday Bike to School Day at Barack Obama Elementary School, located at 1300 Bangs Ave.
7 p.m. May 17 ‘Bike Riddim’ film screening at High Voltage Cafe & Grocery, located at 808 Springwood Ave. The documentary captures Stringbean and his bandmates cycling escapades to gigs via GoPro imagery.
8 a.m. to 9 a.m. May 18 Bike to Work Day Breakfast at High Voltage Café & Grocery, located at 808 Springwood Avenue.
11 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 19 Super Safe Summer event at 142 DeWitt Ave. The event also is sponsored by Greater Asbury Park Community Development Initiative, Shiloh Community Fellowship, Madison Marquette, Interfaith Neighbors, Coastal Habitat For Humanity, Oceans Family Success Center, Jersey Shore Dream Center, Seed of Wonder, Community Affairs & Resource Center, and Aetna. On the bill are a host of vendors, service providers, health screenings, games, bring your own bike rodeo, and entertainment.
5:30 to 8 p.m. May 24 National Bike Month Extravaganza at Second Life Bikes, located at 21 Main St. This bike maintenance & safety talk will be followed by a Complete Streets Coalition Community Ride.
6:30 to 8 p.m. May 30 Fuel for Fitness – Bike Edition at Second Life Bikes, located at 21 Main St.
4 p.m. May 31 Bikes, Books & Babies at words! Bookstore, located at 623 Cookman Ave.
