Mister C’s Beach Bistro, an oceanfront American bistro locate in the Allenhurst Beach Club, will re-open for this summer.

Allenhurst officials selected the former operator Wednesday after reviewing the two proposals submitted. The other proposal was submitted by Asbury Park’s Smith hospitality group.

Mister C’s operated in the space starting in 1991. Owners will be required to be open from at least March 1 through Dec. 31 in 2015  for five years with the option to renew their lease for an additional five-year period, the proposal stated.

The beach club suffered extensive structural damage during Hurricane Sandy [shown below]. Restaurant owners had expected to open by spring 2012. However, the damage was so extensive the borough had to demolish the old facility, said Borough Engineer Peter Avakian.

The borough has started a $2.3 million renovation at the municipal beach club [shown above], said City Clerk and Administrator Lori Osborn. She said she has heard estimates that the original building was over 75 years old. The new building is set back further from the sea wall and will be built to modern day code standards, she said, which will “hopefully” ensure it is stronger than its predecessor.

“Hopefully everything will come together and be open by June 1,” she said.

Borough Commissioners are expected to officially award the contract to Mister C’s owners at the Dec. 29 meeting, Osborn said.
