Inaugural 5K Lobster Run/Walk expected to draw 800
Care for Our Coast fundraising event kicks off at Langosta Lounge
As the weather warms so does the opportunity to compete in road races across the state.
Here in Asbury Park, thousands participate in everything from 5Ks to marathons that pass through our city limits; evident from last weekend’s RunAPalooza and the May 1 NJ Marathon.
And, this weekend the inaugural Lobster Run/Walk to Care for the Coast joins the roster.
A collaborative effort by Langosta Lounge, The American Littoral Society, Split Second Racing, and Shifting Sands, registration is still open for the 4 p.m. April 23 5K event, organizers said. Racers can participate on their own or form a team with friends, co-workers or family members.
Proceeds will benefit coastal conservation and education nonprofits – The American Littoral Society and Shifting Sands.
Over 800 people are expected to traverse along a course suitable for all ages and skill levels through the city and neighboring Ocean Grove, organizers said in a Tuesday afternoon news release.
The run/walk will be followed by an after-party that features a sold-out lobster back as well as a special lite-bite menu and beer promotions for participants, according to the written statement. All food will be provided by Langosta Lounge.
The competition starts and finishes at Langosta Lounge, 1000 Ocean Ave, along the boardwalk. The event will be held rain or shine and include live race results and awards for the top three male and female finishers, as well as age-group winners.
Pre-registered runners and walkers will receive an event t-shirt. For more information and to register, visit www.RaceForum.com/Lobster.
