MOTHER & DAUGHTER TEAM UP IN SUPPORT OF WOMEN WITH CANCER
One Summer Night book-release party Oct 29 at OG Surf and Skate
New York Times bestselling author and cancer survivor Caridad Pineiro is partnering with her daughter Samantha Scordato, also a writer, to support of Mary’s Place by the Sea, a respite home for women receiving treatment for cancer.
“I was lucky that my cancer was caught early, but I have seen family and friends suffer with this horrible disease,” Pineiro said. “When I heard about Mary’s Place by the Sea, I knew I had to find a way to help support such a wonderful cause.”
With the release of One Summer Night, her latest romance novel published by Sourcebooks Casablanca, the duo opted for a book release party at Scordato’s OG Surf and Skate, located on Main Avenue.
The story is set in the fictional town of Sea Kiss, loosely based on Ocean Grove, Pineiro said. OG Surf and Skate makes a cameo in the novel and in its sequel What Happens In Summer, due out in June.
“I’ve always been proud of my mom’s desire to help anyone she could,” Scordato said. “To be a part of the helping makes me feel inspired. As for my writing, having event with other authors always boosts my desire to continue writing books people will love to read.”
One Summer Night, released released earlier this year, landed on Publishers Weekly Top 10 Fall Romance list and was recently featured in the New York Times Book Review.
Pineiro, a Long Island native, has sold over a million books sold worldwide. Passionate about writing and helping others explore and develop their skills, Pineiro is a founding member of the Liberty States Fiction Writers. She has administered workshops at the RT Book Club Convention, Romance Writers of America National Conference, and at various writing organizations across the nation.
And while Scordato obtained a B.S. in Fashion Merchandising and an MBA from Philadelphia University, after graduation she turned her attention to her two loves – running a surf and skate shop and writing her debut novel Following Jane.
The fundraising book release party will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Oct. 29 at OG Surf and Skate, located at 53 Main Avenue. Light refreshments will also be served. A portion of the book sales proceeds and sales at OG Surf and Skate during the event will be donated to Mary’s Place by the Sea. For those who cannot attend, Pineiro said she will donate a portion of any online sales from October 22 to October 29 to Mary’s Place by the Sea.
