Mumford To Debut Sixth Album Dec 17 At Stone Pony
Tickets now on sale to State of Mind Release Party to benefit Mary’s Place
Asbury Park native son Quincy Mumford and his band The Reason Why will debut State of Mind during their Fifth Annual Holiday Show at The Stone Pony.
The Dec 17 album release party will serve as a fundraising event in support of Ocean Grove based Mary’s Place By The Sea, a place of respite for women undergoing cancer treatment.
“One of the most rewarding aspects of my art form is the ability to reach people emotionally,” Mumford said via a written news release. “I’ve heard from several people that music gives them a therapeutic effect and when we bring people together to support a communal goal it brings me such gratitude. To have my wife, parents and fans support Mary’s Place has been an unexpected positive experience in my career and life.”
The 24 year-old singer/songwriter is known for blending the funk, soul and surf sound, with a dash of reggae.
Mumford, born in Asbury Park, was raised in Allenhurst and graduated from Ocean Township High School. He credits his parents for nurturing a love of music.
His self-titled debut album, at the age of 16, was done in partnership with Lakehouse founder Jon Leidersdorff.
For State of Mind Mumford and the band partnered with renowned instrumentalist and producer Michael Ghegan, know for his work with Justin Timberlake, Elton John and Andrea Bocelli.
The result is a bold new approach to creating soul music, Mumford said.
“This record has a fresh sound, with a mix of funk, soul, and pop,” he said. “This is all in the essence of creating a positive, feel good message.”
The release party will include two sets, with a super jam session featuring Ghegan, Albie Monterrosa, Remember Jones, Emily Grove, JT Bowen, Khadijah Mohammed, and Des of Des and the Swagmatics. The event opening performer will be by Philly’s alt-hip hop duo Little Stranger.
The fundraiser will feature an array of local vendor tables and a gift auction with chances to score a Floyd Rose Electric Guitar, Sole Bike, or an Apple iPad Air.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and tickets are $15 in advance via stoneponyonline.com or $20 at the door. Organizers said the first 500 ticket purchasers will receive a copy of “State of Mind” and the first 200 people will receive free Surf Tacos.
