Muti-family house fire on Sixth Avenue displaces four
Firefighters quick response keeps fire damage contained to one unit
A second-alarm structure fire in a multi-family dwelling in Asbury Park left one adult and three children without a home Tuesday morning.
Asbury Park firefighters responded to a fire in the second floor apartment at 510 Sixth Avenue at 10:17 a.m., according to Fire Marshall Garrett Giberson.
The fire originated in a second floor unit of the building, which holds four total apartments, he said.
Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames and were clear from the scene an hour later.
The second floor apartment that housed the fire is now uninhabitable; a unit below sustained water damage and is untenable at this time until repair, said Giberon. The other two units were unharmed.
“Due to the quick response of the fire department they were able to knock down and extinguish the fire quickly to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the structure,” he said.
The Red Cross will assist the adult and three children with housing. Giberson is unaware of any injuries sustained by either civilians or firefighters at this time, he said.
The cause of the fire is is undetermined at this time but is being considered accidental in nature, Giberson said.
Firefighters did an “excellent job” battling the flames considering the 90 degree temperatures and high humidity they have to endure, Giberson said.
Neptune Township firefighters assisted at the scene.
