Neighborhood Watch meeting to be held tonight
'When you set this up, you let the bad guys know we're all watching'
The city is looking to curb crime through a Neighborhood Watch program, and the second meeting on plans for the initiative is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Wednesday in council chambers.
“It’s just putting eyes on the street,” said Tim Gilmour, the city’s director of commerce. “Everybody pays more attention and ends up calling suspicious things in.”
Gilmour orchestrated the first Neighborhood Watch meeting last Thursday, May 23. Police came and told the 50 attendees about how such a program would work.
Tonight, those interested will talk about dividing the city and naming block captains for each section, Gilmour said.
“The good thing is that there are lots of people in the city who are interested,” Gilmour said. “When you set this up, you let the bad guys know we’re all watching.”
