Neptune Olympian Ajee’ Wilson To Be Honored
Parade, Dedication and Races Set Off 9:15 am Saturday
Neptune Township School District will honor one of its own – Olympian 2016 Olympian Ajee’ Wilson. A parade and dedication ceremony will be held at 9:15 a.m. Saturday.
Wilson, 23, is a middle distance runner who currently holds the US 800 meter record. She attended Academy of Allied Health & Science during which time she won 800 meter gold medals at the 2011 and 2012 World Junior Championships.
She maintained her first place record in 2013 and 2014 in the USA Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Along with several other major wins, Wilson won the 2017 New York Road Runners Armory Invitational in New York with the fourth fastest time in history and the second fastest time by an American.
In May Wilson ran at a Diamond League Event in Monaco and broke the U.S. record by nearly one second.
The parade will be held along Neptune Boulevard, traversing to Reynolds Field behind Neptune High School. The event will include track events for middle school students from Neptune and neighboring schools, and comments by Wilson, organizers said.
“Throughout her years in competition, Ms. Wilson has remained appreciative of her family and her community,” Neptune BOE member Chanta Jackson said.
Representatives from the Township Committee, Board of Education, and Board of Chosen Freeholders will be in attendance.
