Neptune teen found with stolen 9mm semi-automatic handgun
Crime database shows gun was stolen from a North Carolina home on May 2
An 18-year-old Neptune Township resident found with a stolen handgun from a North Carolina home in May has been charged with weapons offenses and receiving stolen property, according to a news release from the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office.
Izais Normil, of Eighth Avenue, was found in possession of a loaded Baikal Makarov 9mm semi-automatic handgun. A check of the National Crime Information Center database revealed the handgun was one of several items stolen during a burglary of a home in Raleigh, NC, on May 2.
Normil was arrested and charged Monday with second degree unlawful possession of a weapon, second degree certain person not to possess a weapon and third degree receiving stolen property.
If convicted of the unlawful possession charge, Nrmil faces five to 10 years in a NJ state prison with a period of three and half to five years of parole ineligibility. If convicted of certain person not to possess a weapon, Normil faces up to 10 years in state prison.
The receiving stolen property charge carries a prison term of three to five years.
He is currently being held in the Monmouth County Correctional Institution on $170,000 with no option to post 10 percent.
Despite these charges, every defendant is presumed innocent, unless and until found guilty beyond a reasonable doubt, following a trial at which the defendant has all of the trial rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution and State law, the prosecutor’s news release stated.
The case is assigned to Monmouth County Assistant Prosecutor Michael Costanzo.
