New Year’s Fatal Stabbing Investigation Continues

Officials seek public's help in locating a person of interest

Asbury Park Police Department, in a joint investigation with the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, is asking the public’s help in locating a city man wanted in connection a New Year’s Eve murder.

Raymundo Merino-Ruiz, 27, a Sewell Avenue resident, was fatally stabbed, according to officials.

Officials continue to search for Fabien Vasquez-Quiroz [at right].

Those offering information through the Crime Stoppers tip line that subsequently leads to an arrest could receive a cash reward, officials said.

Asbury Park Police Department responded to an 11:05 p.m. emergency call reporting a victim was stabbed, officials said.

Merino-Ruiz was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, where he was pronounced dead at 11:32 p.m, officials said.

Anyone with information pertaining to the incident is urged to call Det John Leibfried of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office at 800-533-7443 or Det Sgt Daniel Kowsaluk of the Asbury Park Police Department at 732-774-1300.

Anonymous tips can be made via the Monmouth County Crime Stoppers confidential telephone tip-line 1-800-671-4400 or by texting “MONMOUTH” and the tip to 274637. Tips can also be sent via monmouthcountycrimestoppers.com.  

Monmouth County Crime Stoppers will pay up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest of criminals and fugitives, officials said.
