Newark Man Charged In Connection To Weekend Brawl At Monmouth U Party
Police Continue To Seek Public’s Help in Ongoing Investigation of Assaults and Property Damage
A 21-year-old Newark man has been charged in connection to weekend brawl that broke out following a party at the home Monmouth University football players, according a written news release.
Tyrell M Gibbs was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct and obstructing the administration of law, officials said.
Deal police were called at approximately 12:24 a.m. to 23 Atlantic Ave where a large fight was underway. As Sgt. Nick Vaccaro attempted to render first aid to a victim who appeared to be bleeding from the head, Gibbs began to interfere, became disorderly and refused to follow instructions, officials said.
While police lost sight of the suspect in the chaotic environment and attempts to identify him were unsuccessful, through cooperating witnesses, Monmouth University Police and other investigative means, Gibbs identity was discovered, officials said.
He was released on a summons, pending a future court date.
Immediately following the incident, Christian Runza Jr, 20, of Norwood and Michael Christ Jr, 21, of Sterling, VA, wes charged with disorderly conduct, maintaining a nuisance, providing alcohol to underage persons, and borough ordinance violations.
Officials said the assaults, criminal mischief to nearby vehicles, and a host of other violations are still under active investigation. Surveillance footage is being reviewed and the local police department continues to work in conjunction with Monmouth University’s on campus police.
