Alex Roberts of Ocean Township wins scholarship award
A budding documentarian has been named the state’s Veterans of Foreign Wars [VFW] Boy Scout of the Year.
Eagle Scout Alex Roberts, 15, of Ocean Township [shown above second from left] created a Holocaust Memorial Display and companion video featuring survivors’ stories for his Service Project. Designed to be used as an educational tool for schools, religious institutions and museums, the project showcases New Jersey Holocaust survivor and outlines more than two dozen concentration camps.
Sponsored by the VFW Harold Daley Post 1333 in Asbury Park, Roberts will receive a $1,000 scholarship toward his college education.
The Scout of the Year award was established in 2001. Each year eligible Boy and Girl Scouts who display standout citizenship, patriotism and love of country are awarded with the college scholarship.
Roberts achieved the rank of Eagle Scout at age of 14 through Boy Scout Troop 76, Monmouth Council’s Thunderbird District.
He produced and co-directed Innocence Lost: Stories from Children of the Holocaust, an eleven-minute documentary for film festival viewings.
