NJDOE Calls Out APSD For Increased Graduation Rates
Power Of Ten Program Hailed For Supporting Those Most At Risk
The Asbury Park School District was among those recognized Friday by the State Dept of Education for increased graduation rates.
From Weehawken and Willingboro to Perth Amboy and Carlstadt-East Rutherford, districts were hailed via social media for their innovative techniques and programs.
In Asbury Park’s case, the state DOE commended the district for growing the graduation rate by more than 21 percentage points over a four year time period.
The laurel spotlight’s the district’s Power of Ten program, which identifies those most at risk students. Plans are structured to provide those students with mentors and a support network, which provides personal, academic, and career counseling.
Acting Superintendent Sancha Gray said the district was pleased to learn to the recognition.
“It reinforces that the incremental changes we have implemented are effective,” Gray said. “While we are pleased with the strides we have made, we will not stop forging ahead until we achieve our goal of reaching 100 percent.”
From holistic initiatives that offer yoga, meditation, and positive affirmations to vocational training and double degree opportunities through its Dream Academy program that is administered in conjunction with Brookdale Community College, the school administration and its Hard Hat Nation team has pledged to continue to rebuild, retool and restore the district’s academic standings.
“It is my goal to continue adding to the significant improvements we have made, always keeping in mind our pledge of ‘Building a Brighter Future’ for our students and the community,” Gray said. “None of this would have been possible without the dedicated members of our #hardhatnation who always put children first.”
