Update: No injuries reported in Tuesday night blaze
Family of nine seeks temporary temporary rental as home remediation begins
[Correction: An early version of this story said the fire occurred 11 p.m Wednesday instead of Tuesday].
The family displaced by by Tuesday night fire say they will stay with family until they can find more permanent shelter.
The nine member family returned Wednesday to gather personal belongings and begin the process of remediation at their Grand Avenue home left uninhabitable by the 11 p.m blaze.
“We are looking to rent a four bedroom home for a few month,” homeowner Marjorie Lawes, a 31-year-long city resident said.
Asbury Park Fire Department spokesman Garrett Giberson Jr said no one was injured in the blaze.
Upon arrival, firefighters found smoke and fire conditions on the single-family home’s third floor, Giberson said. A box alarm was immediately issued to call in off duty personnel and mutual aid assistance.
Due to the fire department’s quick response, they were able to knock the fire down quickly and prevent it from spreading through the rest of the owner occupied home, Giberson said. No injuries were sustained by firefighters or the home’s residents.
The home was left uninhabitable due to smoke and water damage, Giberson said. Nine people were displaced and received placement assistance from the Jersey Coast Red Cross.
Neptune and Wanamassa fire departments were among those who assisted and the Monmouth County Fire Marshals responded. Firefighters remained on the scene until 1:30 a.m. and the cause of the fire remains under investigation, Giberson said.
