No Parking in effect for Deal Captain’s wake & funeral
GoFundMe campaign launched to support his children
The Asbury Park Police Department has issued a no parking notice to coincide with the expected large crowd for Deal Police Captain Earl Alexander’s funeral Thursday afternoon.
The wake for Alexander is being held from 3 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Buckley Funeral Home, 509 Second Avenue.
In anticipation of a large showing, there will be no parking between the hours of 2 and 8 p.m. along the 400, 500, 600 and 700 blocks of Second Avenue, the notice states.
On Friday morning no parking will be allowed between the hours of 7 a.m. and noon along the same blocks to accommodate the expected crowd for the 11 a.m. funeral service at Holy Spirit Church at 705 Second Avenue.
Alexander, the Deal Police Department’s second in command, died early Saturday morning following a motor vehicle crash along Route 71 in Ocean Township.
A GoFundMe campaign has been launched by Alexander’s former sister-in-law Chrissie Calder to support his children Taylor and Earl.
“They experienced a great loss when losing their father, Earl Alexander, the Deal, N.J. Police Captain, unexpectedly on January 2nd, 2015 and our hearts go out to them,” Calder wrote.
The fund will be used to set aside money for the children’s health, education, immediate or future needs, Calder said.
Ocean Township spokesman Det. Lt. Timothy Torchia said, a preliminary investigation revealed the 38-year-old lost control of his 2007 Acura TSX as he drove south along Route 71 just north of Perrine Avenue near 12:33 a.m. The car left the road, flipped on its side and struck a utility pole.
Alexander headed the Deal Police Department’s Internal Affairs, was Patrol Commander, Accreditation Manager, Motor Officer and a firefighter.
The Asbury Park Police department will post no parking notices along the Second Avenue block and will enforce the no parking rules, according to the notice.
