No Starving Artists Auction
Hotel Tides hosts open bid event showcasing 18 visual artists
Whether your motivation is to buy local art, jump start your own collection or find that perfect gift, chances are Sunday afternoon’s No Starving Artists Auction at Hotel Tides can meet your needs.
Organized by area artists Ellen Martin and Sandy Taylor, the 2 p.m. event will feature works from 18 Jersey Shore [and beyond] visual artists. In the true spirit of holiday giving, the event organizers and venue will not split any of the sales with the artists.
“I have to thank Ryan Jimenez, the General Manager of the Hotel Tides, for being on board with this idea,” Martin said in a written statement. “They too will take no commission. All the proceeds will go directly to the artists to help them further their careers.”
Martin said the only expense to the artist was $20 to help pay the event auctioneer and for administrative costs associated with the event.
The artists include Patricia Hutchinson, Alexandra Martin, and Sandy Taylor from Belmar; RitaMarie Cimini and Lorraine DeProspo from the Montclair area; Laura Petrovich-Cheney from Asbury Park, as well as Dawn DiCicco, Kathleen Heron, Shoshana Kertesz, Colleen Lineberry, Amy Puccio, Mike Quon, Sharon Sayegh, Madeleine Shaw, Elaine Shor, and Karen Starrett.
“We’re all looking forward to an exciting event where both the artists and the art-loving public will enjoy a win-win event,” said Taylor. “With many galleries closing, there are more limited opportunities for artists. This event, which is almost a pop-up, will allow the artists to meet new people, and for collectors to meet new artists.”
The No Starving Artists auction viewing starts at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the bidding kicking off at 3 p.m. The event features free hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar. Hotel Tides is located at 408 Seventh Avenue and free parking is available.
