North Eats expanded operating hours gets partial nod
Council oks 10 a.m. opening and 10 p.m. closing for weekends & holidays
An extension of operating hours for the North Eats Food Truck Court along the Asbury Park boardwalk was met with some concern by the City Council Wednesday.
Boardwalk redeveloper Madison Marquette requested Monday that the opening and closing hours be extended by one hour in order to come in line with other vendor hours of operation, according to Carrie Turner, Director of Retail.
During its public Workshop Meeting members of the governing body said they would agree to the 10 a.m. opening but prefers that the 9 p.m. closing time remain during the week, from Sunday through Thursday.
The Council decided a 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. operating schedule would be acceptable on Friday and Saturday as well as on the Fourth of July and the Sunday before the Memorial and Labor Day holidays.
Turner also asked the City Council to extend its two-year approval to six years, thereby matching what the city’s Planning Board granted last year.
As the city’s redevelopment authority, the City Council has the final say on allowing the temporary food truck court to remain in operation.
City officials agreed to extend approval by one year, saying this would allow them to address any issues that may arise from the extended hours.
“Personally I am not in favor of giving the extension of years, especially because we are increasing the hours,” Mayor John Moor said. “We would have no recourse.”
Municipal Attorney Fred Raffetto said a resolution will be prepared and placed on the City Council agenda for a formal vote.
If the governing body approves the extended hours, the matter moves on to the Planning Board for consideration. The extended one year approval by the governing body does not require Planning Board approval.
