Nuccio selected as acting city manager
Interview process for a permanent hire is 'ongoing'
The Asbury Park City Council at a special meeting held Wednesday voted to hire an interim city manager.
Effective Nov. 1, Anthony Nuccio, the city’s director of community relations and social services, will serve as the “acting” city manager until Jan. 1, 2014, unless the city council appoints someone to the position permanently before the first of the year.
Nuccio will be paid a gross salary of $3,000 per month in addition to his current salary for his service as the acting city manager.
City Manager Terence Reidy’s final day is Thursday, Oct. 31, according to the separation agreement he signed with the city.
Mayor Myra Campbell along with Council members John Moor and Amy Quinn, who all ran on the One Asbury ticket, assumed a council majority when they were sworn in in July. They informed Reidy before they were sworn in of their plans to replace him once they had assumed their seats on the council.
City council members began to interview potential candidates to fill the city manager’s position in September. They conducted another round of interviews for two candidates at Wednesday’s special meeting but have not yet selected a permanent replacement for Reidy.
“The process is ongoing,” said City Attorney Frederick Raffetto.
For as long as Nuccio will serve as the acting city manager, a stipend of $1000 per month will be given to Douglas Shultz, who also works in the city’s community relation and social services department. The stipend accounts for his increase in responsibility within the social services department while Nuccio performs the duties associated with the acting city manager position.
Nuccio also has conflicts with the final three council meetings scheduled for this year. To accommodate the conflicts, council members have agreed to move the meeting dates. The dates will be Tuesday, Nov. 26, Tuesday, Dec. 3 and Tuesday, Dec. 17. Meeting times will remain at 4 p.m. for the executive session, 6 p.m. for the workshop session and 7 p.m. for the regular meeting.
The next council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 6.
