Ocean Grove Fire Engulfs Seven Structures
Officials: Two Firefighters sustained minor injuries
Two firefighters suffered minor injuries in the 5 a.m. Friday blaze on Seaview Avenue in Ocean Grove, according to the Neptune Office of Emergency Management.
When firefighters arrived, the five-alarm blaze had engulfed three homes and a vacant hotel in the area of Seaview and Lake avenues, but in the end a total of seven structures were affected.
Neptune Township Police Captain Michael McGhee told the press the fire may have started in the vacant Warrington Hotel, which was set to be demolished. It spread to the abandoned La Pierre Condominiums, The Marlboro condominium, and three single-family homes.
He said firefighters did a “phenomenal job” of keeping the fire from spreading.
Officials said all residents and occupants were safely evacuated and the Red Cross was at St. Paul’s Church on Embury Avenue to assist any displaced residents.
Neptune Township Business Administrator Vito Gadaleta told NJ 101.5 the fire was brought down near 10:30 a.m. but firefighters were still looking for hot spots.
Utilities were immediately cut off and New Jersey Natural Gas was on-scene to assist with the cleanup process.
Asbury Park, Neptune Township, Allenhurst, Bradley Beach, Avon-By-The-Sea, Middletown, Rumson, Wannamassa, and Neptune EMS all responded.
