Ocean police on the hunt for burglary suspect
Accused caught on surveillance video during night of the thefts
Ocean Township police are looking for a person who was captured on a surveillance video after they discarded a purse they earlier removed from an unlocked car in a series of overnight vehicle thefts.
The suspect is also accused of taking cash and personal belongings from other unlocked cars that were parked overnight, all within the Oakhurst section of the township.
On Monday, Nov. 17, police investigated numerous car burglaries that occurred during the overnight hours where cash, loose change and small personal belongings that were easily seen from outside of the vehicles were removed from unlocked vehicles parked on the streets.
In one incidence, a woman’s purse was taken and discarded after her wallet was removed. The suspect tossed the purse behind a commercial business near the intersection of Roosevelt Avenue and Monmouth Road, where a video surveillance camera captured image of a subject on a bicycle discarding the purse after removing a wallet.
A still photograph of the subject [shown above] shows what appears to be a male subject riding a mountain style bicycle wearing a winter coat and a bomber style hat.
Police are asking anyone who can identify the suspect or may have witnessed any suspicious activity on the night of the car burglaries to contact the Detective Bureau at 732-531-1800.
Anyone who suspects their vehicle was entered should notify police prior to entering it or driving it away.
