Ocean Township PD Launches Report It
App Offers Instant Reporting to Police Dispatch Center
The Ocean Township Police Department has launched Report It, an app that lets smartphone users instantly make reports directly to its dispatch center.
Based on the ‘If you see something, say something,’ campaign, Chief Steven R. Peters [at right] said the Geo-based platform allows participants to make anonymous non emergent tips and send photos.
“This is not a platform for people to use in an emergency,” Peters said. “We don’t want any delay for emergencies or time loss, especially if a life is involved. While the reports will be viewed in the dispatch center, emergency calls are the priority.”
Ocean Township Police the Department [and the municipality] is the first in the area to launch Report It, at a cost of $3000 per year.
“We started using it on the municipal side in June or July of last year. The reports went through the Mayor’s office and included issues around town pertaining to public works and buildings and ground. People have reported on everything from potholes and things that need to be picked up to their concerns.”
Peters said users can send everything from parking complaints to road and traffic issues, like speeding, through Report It.
The app can be downloaded via Google Play and Apple’s App store. For more information, visit www.reportit.com, or click on the following links:
