Paid parking resumes in the waterfront area and the downtown business district on Monday, April 1.

“I ask everyone to prepare themselves for that,” said Mayor Ed Johnson at the March 13 council meeting when the go-ahead was given to resume charging. “It’s well past time.”

Paid parking had been suspended while parking pay stations were replaced after sustaining damage in Hurricane Sandy. Fifty seven damaged pay stations were replaced or repaired. The city has applied to FEMA for losses associated with the meters going off-line, as well as repair and replacement of the meters themselves.

Metered parking is $2 per hour on Ocean Avenue and $1 per hour elsewhere.
