Parkemoor home furnishing and interior design shop opens
Memorial Drive location features custom made to accessory pieces
The award-winning retailer and designer Ty Christian quietly opened Parkemoor along Memorial Drive this week.
Located in the newly renovated Shops at Sunset Point, the 2,000 square-foot showroom and design studio features everything from customizable sofas and chairs to a vast array of lighting and accessory items.
“Our philosophy is simple: get to know the customer before developing any design plan, make sure that the client is enjoying the decorating process and don’t push a product on anyone,” Christian said [shown at right in front of the upholstery swatch ‘wall of possibilities’].
The left brain to right brain takeover happened organically some 20 years ago when Christian was working as a strategic financial planner for a corporate firm.
“I started doing design work on the side then I realized this is my passion,” the Kansas native said.
What followed was a series of shops in Annapolis, Md., but after purchasing his Asbury Park home in 2013, he chose to make a permanent move. The last of his Maryland shops closed in 2014.
Christian said he chose to open his fourth retail location in Asbury Park because of its receptiveness to creativity.
“There is so much creative energy in this town; the music scene, the food scene, the art scene, the shopping – there is a real strong sense of community here,” he said. “I know that if I’m introducing new cutting edge thoughts, designs, and themes to people in Asbury – they will get it.”
Christian’s world travels are the base of his international approach with a decided urban twist.
“I take inspiration from things I see being done in Europe, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong, and India,” he said. “I find the color in India just fantastic.”
But at Parkemoor’s foundations, there is a midcentury modern meets Hollywood Regency feel, with vintage accents strategically placed throughout the showroom.
“There are so many possibilities when you do interior work,” Christian said. “I’m constantly researching new products and new design trends. The general consumer is not and it’s my job to listen to them, find out what they might be interested in, and show them new exciting things that falls within their comfort zone.”
Parkemoor’s vendor list includes: Company C, DesignMaster Furniture, Distinctive Designs, ELK Group (Dimond and Sterling), Hancock & Moore, Hooker Furniture, Lampe Berger Paris, Left Bank Art, LuxArt Silks, McNeilly Furniture, Mirror Masters, NDI, Pacific Coast Lighting, Parker Southern, Robert Abbey, Surya, Tempaper, Temple Furniture, TradeWinds Furniture, Uttermost and Universal Furniture.
The retail store will also host a variety of in-store events, such as curated design workshops and its weekly ‘Throwback Thursdays,’ when vintage vinyl set the background for impromptu gatherings.
Parkemoor is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday. Sunday and Monday is reserved for client consultations. For more information, visit their website, Facebook, Houzz, Instagram, and Twitter pages.
