A petition that seeks direct train service between Bay Head and New York Penn Station has been created on online petition site change.org.

The petition pressures Veronique Hakim, executive director of NJ Transit, for a “one seat ride” service that would eliminate train transfers in Newark and Long Branch station, significantly reducing the time and aggravation of riding multiple trains between cities.

Morgan Sackman, who handles marketing and promotions for APVibe, a marketing campaign that seeks to promote downtown Asbury Park as a shopping and dining destination, created the petition.

As of Wednesday morning, just under 300 of the 5,000 requested signatures have been collected. Click here to view the petition.

Below is the full text of the petition:

Direct train service, “one-seat-ride” (OSR), between New York Penn Station and Bay Head, New Jersey will eliminate inconvenient transfers at Newark or Long Branch station.  This will create greater accessibility to New Jersey communities, with the potential to greatly increase tourism, local business, and residency.

In other communities, changed service to “OSR” has improved quality of life, as well as the development and sustainability of those communities.  By signing this petition you are expressing your personal need for a shorter commute, more time with family and friends and/or increased business in Asbury Park, Belmar, Point Pleasant Beach, Manasquan and many other vibrant New Jersey towns.

Join us in creating an open communication with New Jersey Transit, by showing the demand for “OSR” and working together to create the most efficient transportation possible along the Jersey Coast Line.
