Pit bull advocacy group to host ‘pack walk’ in city
Adoptable pit bulls from local rescues will participate
Bully Moms United for a PITastic Cause [BMUPC], a pit bull advocacy group located in New Jersey and New York, will host a “pack walk” in Asbury Park on Sunday, Oct. 5.
The group will gather at Convention Hall and begin their walk at 3 p.m. The route travels south down Ocean Avenue, turns right on Asbury Avenue, heads back north up Kingsley Street, and ends at the dog run on the Eighth Avenue beach.
BMUPC works tirelessly to promote positive awareness for our beloved bully breeds and to end breed specific legislation, according to Kristen Radian, one of the group’s co-founders.
Adoptable pit bulls from local rescues will also participate in the walk, she said.
Group members have previously participated in anti kill-shelter rallies, organized fundraisers and volunteered at several shelters, according to their website.

Pack walk rules are as follows:
No flexi/retractable leashes, no body harnesses and no flat buckle or plastic clip collars will be allowed. Flat buckle collars may be used for identification tags, as a safety measure. Anyone who arrives with the above equipment will be asked to leave and may return when they have proper collars. Prong collars, chokes and slip leads are OK, as well as Gentle Leaders and Halti head collars.
For less experienced walkers, BMUPC highly recommends Gentle Leader or Halti-Head Collars. Walking collars and leashes should provide the walker with comfort and control over the dog.
PLEASE NOTE:
1. Keep a safe distance from other dogs. Do not assume dogs are dog- or people-friendly.
2. Stay off of people’s lawns and private property completely.
3. Dogs should walk and remain at their handler’s sides. This is a walk with a purpose. We are leaders, dogs follow.
4. Do your best to keep up with the pack.
5. We walk in the streets. Please remain to one side. Walkers are asked not to walk four or five people wide, which could impede the flow of traffic.
