Planned Parenthood Benefit Soiree at Lock and Shade
Local Businesses and Vendors to Participate in Jan. 15 Fundraiser at Lake Avenue Salon
Local businesses, vendors and artists will come together this month in support of a Planned Parenthood Benefit Soiree organized by Jackie Hall in conjunction with Lock and Shade Salon owners Bianca Bertoli and Laura Allen [shown in featured photo].
“With the current political climate regressing as far as sexual health and reproductive rights, I felt there was a need for a positive local movement,” Hall said in a written email interview. “It feels more important than ever to educate the public on the wealth of services offered by Planned Parenthood.”
Slated for 5 to 8 p.m. Jan. 15 at the Lake Avenue salon [at right above Electric Tattoo], the event will feature wine and good company coupled with educational material from the Shrewsbury Planned Parenthood, local vendors, raffles, and a silent auction, Hall said.
“The fact that Planned Parenthood offers common sense prevention initiatives like STD testing, cancer screenings and safe sex education is not heavily broadcasted to the public in today’s media coverage,” Hall said. “Planned Parenthood’s ‘These Doors Stay Open’ policy is vital to assuring affordable reproductive care to all, regardless of economic status. My hope is that this benefit will not only raise money but, more importantly, awareness of just how indispensable Planned Parenthoods contributions are to our society.”
Participating local businesses, artists and vendors will include: Allison Kolarik, AP Roastery, Ben Ruset Photography, Cardinal, Christine Lindstrom, the Daley Practice Yoga Studio, Daria Cali Gems, Foolish Ginger, Interwoven, Parlor Gallery, Pasta Volo, Purple Glaze Donuts, Rebel Supply AP, Redmoon, Shelter Home, Susan Brown [Femmehesse], The Speakeatery, Spring Whitaker, Steady Hand Lettering, Sweet Danib, Talulas Pizza, Velvet and Slate, West Oak Design, Words Bookstore, and Tim Lucas Art.
The suggested donation at the door is $10, which includes food catered by Pasta Volo. Lock and Shade Salon is located at 605 Lake Avenue. For more information, email acheson.brian@yahoo.com or DM @asburypitties.
