Planned Power Outage Hits Deal Neighborhoods
JCP&L to conduct circuit transfer from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday
The need for JCP&L to conduct a circuit transfer will result in power outages for Deal residents and businesses Thursday, according to a news advisory by the Deal Police Department.
The service interruption is expected to last from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. for customers in the vicinity of Lady Bess Drive, Atlantic Avenue, Lakeview Road, Monmouth Drive, Queen Ann Drive, Tiny Lane, and Woodford Road, officials said.
The work, being done to help improve electric service reliability, is part of the corporation’s $387 million distribution and transmission infrastructure projects underway throughout northern and central New Jersey service areas, JCP&L officials said.
“Last year JCP&L experienced its best service reliability in over a decade and our goal is to make our system even better,” President Jim Fakult said in a written Aug. 18 statement. “The 2016 projects feature major enhancements to the transmission system that delivers the energy that businesses, industries and residents across northern and central New Jersey expect. These proactive upgrades increase the resiliency of our system and help further minimize the duration and frequency of service interruptions.”
To date, more than $233 million has been spent on completing the final phase of a 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that runs through Mercer, Middlesex and Monmouth counties; upgrading 40 distribution circuits; completing a substation expansion in Morris County; and the trimming trees along more than 2,000 miles of lines, according to the news release.
Other scheduled work includes 54 additional circuit upgrades, installing equipment that automatically switches from one circuit to another when a problem is detected, upgrading voltage controls, and inspecting and replacing utility poles, officials said.
In the event of an emergency or inclement weather, the scheduled outage will be done during the same time frame on Friday, according to Deal officials. For more info, visit www.firstenergycorp.com.
