Update: City Resident Charged in Death Of Man Found On Senior Building Stairwell
Housing Authority Representative Said Victim was Stabbed
Knowledge B. Allah, 54, of Asbury Park was charged with first-degree murder of 57-year-old Salah Ali, third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and disturbing human remains in an Asbury Park death, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office has told the media.
Allah is was remanded to Monmouth County Jail, where he awaits an initial court appearance hearing.
The incident remains under investigation, spokesman Chris Swendeman said.
Ali was found deceased Wednesday morning inside the Dr. Robinson Towers, located at 1000 Third Avenue, according to officials. Asbury Park Police responded to a 911 call around 11:18 a.m. requesting first aid for a fall victim at the complex, officials said. Police arrived to find the victim lying in a stairwell of the building.
Swendeman said the arrest was made lade Wednesday evening.
An Asbury Park Housing Authority Representative reached near 3:30 p.m. Wednesday said he was en route to the site to ensure his tenants were alright and to determine if any grief counseling services would be needed. He said he received notice of a fatal stabbing just a half hour prior.
“I don’t know much at this time,” he said. “What I can tell you is that it a male victim but I don’t know if it was a tenant or someone visiting a tenant in the building.”
The Housing Authority representative said an unsubstantiated report to him identified a fatal male stabbing victim was thrown down a flight of stairs Tuesday night.
