Polls close in Asbury Park
The Sun will provide updates as election returns are available
By Asbury Park Sun
Asbury Park polls closed at 8 p.m. in a hard-fought election that could see the first major change in control of the city council in the city since 2001.
Twenty-two candidates are seeking all five council seats in this non-partisan election. The five elected council members will select the mayor from among themselves. They will begin new four-year terms on July 1.
Four tickets of five candidates competed in the election: the incumbent-led Forward Asbury Park, the A-Team, One Asbury and Asbury Park Out Front. Two independents — Randy Thompson and Harold Suggs — were also on the ballot.
