Polls open today for top 10 NJ beaches contest
Winners to be announced Memorial Day weekend
After a year long hiatus, visitors to Asbury Park and other New Jersey beaches are invited to once again nominate their favorite beaches in the state Department of Tourism’s Top 10 Beaches contest.
Created in 2008, the survey seeks to “encourage stewardship and pride in the state’s beaches while promoting a little healthy competition between New Jersey’s favorite beach towns,” according to the survey site.
Respondents are invited to nominate their favorite beaches in three categories: best beaches for a day trip, most family friendly beaches, and which beaches offer the best activities for ecotourists.
The polls opened today and will be available through midnight on April 30. The survey was postponed in 2013 in recognition that many beach communities were in the process of recovering from damage due to Hurricane Sandy. Results of the survey will be announced just before Memorial Day weekend.

The survey was created by a collaboration from The New Jersey Sea Grant Consortium (NJSGC) and the Richard Stockton College of New Jersey’s Coastal Research Center, and has become a highlight of the state’s pre-summer festivities, the website states.
