Problematic Delmonte residents to be evicted
Neighbors complain about boarding house tenants
After receiving some complaints, the city is seeing to the eviction of three residents of the Delmonte boarding house at 302 First Ave.
At the Aug. 1 council meeting, residents living near the Delmonte complained of some residents causing public disturbance in the nearby Library Square Park, including excessive noise and public nudity.
City manager Terence Reidy arranged a meeting between the Del Monte’s property owner and building manager and Tony Nuccio, city director of human services.
“They went over the concerns that we have and the community has about that facility in great detail,” Reidy said at the Sept. 5 council meeting. “The manager of the facility basically said most of the issues are generated by three residents and there was nothing they could do.”
But the city knew “that was not the case,” Reidy said. “Steps can be taken if residents are causing problems in the facility and in the community.”
Now, the building owner is evicting those residents, Reidy said. Nuccio also went over guidelines as to tenant behavior and how the boarding house should be run. A follow-up meeting is scheduled for October.
