Public Art comes to Asbury Park Transportation Center
ArtsCAP commissions Arroyo to create mural with help of local kids
The Arts Coalition of Asbury Park [ArtsCAP] has commissioned local artist Patricia Arroyo to add her talent to the Asbury Park Transportation Center, located at Main Street and Springwood Avenue.
Arroyo will work with local kids to paint the mural [shown in featured photo] inside the Asbury Park Transportation Center, organizers said.
The mural, the latest addition to an ongoing beautification project led by the Asbury Park Quality of Life Committee in conjunction with the Asbury Park Chamber of Commerce, is located on the west facing wall on the lower level of the Center to welcome visitors arriving on southbound NJ Transit trains.
In her depiction of Asbury Park from past to present and East to West, Arroyo draws on her childhood memories of the city, especially its boardwalk amusements and playground.
Arroyo, a Belmar native, is a graduate of The School of Visual Arts in New York City. The city resident has been Asbury Park vignettes for 20 years. Her work are done by hand with watercolor, acrylics and oils on either canvas, paper or wood, according to her Fine Art America website.
ArtsCAP is a volunteer nonprofit that advocates for and promotes art as a positive force for growth throughout the city.
While the project is funded in part by the Mary Owen Borden Foundation and the Investors Foundation, a GoFundMe page has been created to help meet the project’s costs. Donations are tax deductible.
