Public invited to discussions on race & mass incarceration
Second Baptist Church will host Trinity administered talks
Second Baptist Church, in collaboration with Trinity Church, will host a 7 p.m. seminar on racism at the former’s 124 Atkins Avenue location.
The event will be followed by the 10 a.m. Saturday viewing of Mass Incarceration and Race in America. A round table discussion will follow with light breakfast.
“It’s important to talk on racial justice, specifically in our churches and within the Asbury Park community,” Ocean Grove resident Maureen Schaefer said during last month’s event.
The groups are administered by Derek Minno Bloom of The Racial Justice Project at Trinity Church, created 6 months ago.
Bloom also heads the Asbury Park Anti-Hunger Coalition’s Education Justice Collective at Trinity, created by their Food Justice program. The Coalition is comprised of a diverse group of people and organizations working to combat hunger as well as housing, education, and racial justice issues in Asbury Park, Bloom said in a written statement.
“Asbury will become a more just city when these issues are more understood,” Bloom has said.
All are welcome to participate in the programs.
