QSpot Accepting QFest Film and Digital Media Submissions
LGBTQ Support Center will remain at JSAC Through March
QSpot LGBT Community Center is moving forward with its annual QFest New Jersey Film and Digital Media Festival, now accepting submissions for the April 7 to 9 event.
Currently based in the Jersey Shore Arts Center, a pending discrimination lawsuit has stalled the end of a lease agreement with the S. Main Street venue in Ocean Grove.
“Under the new agreement, QSpot is legally safe and secure in our home until at least the end of March,” Executive Director John Mikytuck told Out In New Jersey’s Peter Frycki. “This new agreement further extends a delay that was agreed to in December just prior to a scheduled hearing on QSpot’s request for an injunction.”
Under the terms of the original agreement, QSpot’s current lease will be extended at least until the court’s decision on the injunction is made, now likely to occur sometime at the end of March, Frycki reported on Feb. 1. The agreement, approved by Judge Jamie S Perri, provides QSpot with legal protections against any attempt by the JSAC to start eviction proceedings prior to the next court hearing.
QFest is the state’s only annual LGBT film and digital media festival, aimed at supporting and promoting LGBT film and digital media, the individuals who create it, and the stories and people they highlight.
The submission deadline is February 27 and must include content about or connection to the LGBT community/ Preference is given to unreleased work, work by New Jersey residents, and work that exemplifies artistic expression [in multiple forms], education and/or inclusion, organizers said.
“QFest recognizes and salutes the contributions LGBT individuals make to the media landscape and our world culture,” Mikytuck said in a written statement. “QFest provides a venue where people can experience LGBT film and digital media which might not otherwise be seen. QSpot celebrates the unique work, accomplishments, and talent of the LGBT community and we’re honored to produce QFest for that reason.”
Entry categories include Long/Short Fiction, Long/Short Documentary, Animated Long/Short, Music Video, Smart Phone App, Video Game and Website.
Winning submissions in all 10 categories will receive prizes.
