Report: Loch Arbour clerk resigns amidst $700,000 severance controversy
Carafa had served 22 years in village with population of 194
Loch Arbour Village Clerk Lorraine Carafa submitted her resignation Wednesday amidst a controversy surrounding her $700,000 severance package approved by the prior Village Board of Trustees, according to a report posted on the Star-Ledger website.
The severance would have taken affect if the village merged with neighboring Allenhurst, which both small towns are considering, according to the Star-Ledger post. Presumably, Carafa would then be out of a job.
Carafa’s resigination will take effect Dec. 31, but she will use vacation time at the end of the year, according to the Star-Ledger. The current Loch Arbour Board of Commissioners hired a special counsel to determine the legality of Carafa’s severance, and that attorney stated her deal with the village is now moot with the resignation, the website reported.
Loch Arbour has a population of 194, and Carafa has served in the post for 22 years, according to the Star-Ledger post.
