Russo Music offers free guitar restring and recycle
Acoustic & Electrics accepted 5 p.m. Wednesday at Lake Ave location
On the cusp of a weekend that’s sure to offer an eclectic array of musical performances and shows, Lake Avenue based Russo Music is hosting a free guitar restring and recycling event.
Starting at 5 p.m. Wednesday, guitarists can bring their acoustic and electric instruments into the Lake Avenue shop.
The over 50-year-old music shop is hosting the event as recognition for International Guitar Month and Earth Day, organizers said.
“We couldn’t be happier to host this event and participate in the Playback program,” store manager Scott Engel said. “Our shop does over 2,000 guitar repairs a year – that’s a lot of strings in the garbage.”
Sponsored by D’Addario, guitars will be restrung with D’Addario NYXL or Nickel Bronze Acoustic strings. Old strings will be recycled through Playback – the national recycling program launched this year by D’Addario.
The Playback program is the first of its kind, administered across the globe in conjunction with D’Addario and TerraCycle, an international recycling company.
“We’re thrilled that someone has found a way to recycle one of our industry’s biggest waste products,” Engel said. “Russo will be setting up TerraCycle string recycling drop offs at all of our stores from this point forward.”
The program is a part of D’Addario’s Player’s Circle loyalty program, and allows registered users to recycle their used strings in exchange for extra Player’s Circle points.
Wednesday’s participating musicians will receive a code at the event, redeemable for extra Player’s Circle points that can be used towards merchandise or donations to the D’Addario Foundation, the company’s nonprofit that works to support music education in underserved communities.
Russo Music’s Asbury Park location opened in the spring of 2010. They feature a wide array of name brand and boutique guitars, amps, effects, drums, and accessories.
