Sarah McLachlan & Patty Griffin Concert Follow Up
Sold-Out Benefit Show Raises $240,000 for Mary’s Place by the Sea
Grammy Award winning artists Sarah McLachlan and Patty Griffin’s sold out concert last month raised $240,000 in support of free programming for Mary’s Place by the Sea, the nonprofit announced Monday.
The Main Avenue located respite home for women with cancer offers holistic and integrative services at no cost to women across the nation and beyond.
“Having lost my mother, father and brother to cancer and knowing countless others who are coping with this difficult diagnosis, I’m honored to be joining Mary’s Place by the Sea to lend my voice to their cause and supporting their terrific mission to help others with cancer to heal: body, mind and soul,” McLachlan said in the written statement.
Mary’s Place services include oncology massage, nutritional education, guided meditation, yoga, expressive writing, Reiki, and counseling.
“A cancer diagnosis is tough for anyone to endure, and to have a respite like Mary’s Place by the Sea, where one can pause and restart outside of their day-to-day lives to help them get back on track is something I wish for my loved ones and all who are impacted by this awful disease,” Griffin said.
The sold-out concert was held July 28 at the historic Paramount Theatre, located on the Asbury Park Boardwalk. The packed house of concert goers appreciated the emotional tributes by Sarah and Patty and their heartwarming performances and personal connection, said Michele Gannon, who co founded the nonprofit along with Maria McKeon.
“The work we do at Mary’s Place by the Sea is powered by the appreciation we receive from the many guests we support who have found solace and strength to move into the next chapter of their cancer experience,” she said. “We’re thrilled and honored that Sarah and Patty dedicated their time and shared their stories to help support our mission to provide invaluable resources for women in their time of need.
Since its creation close to 10 years ago, Mary’s Place by the Sea has helped over 8,000 women with cancer to heal through their mind, body and soul approach. Before, during, and after treatment, guests can opt for visit that last for a few hours or stay up to two nights in a custom-built, state-of-the-art, 10-bedroom home.
The nonprofit relies on the generosity of individuals, corporate organizations, and fundraising events to support its mission. For more about Mary’s Place by the Sea, visit marysplacebythesea.org.
