Saturday stabbing not connected to Beach Bar
Fight started on Ocean Avenue ramp, police now say
Police have determined that an incident involving a stabbing victim early Saturday morning on the beachfront was not connected to the Beach Bar in Convention Hall.
The information provided yesterday to the Sun by police was that a fight initially starting in the bar led to the incident. Police now say that the fight started at Ocean and Fifth avenues.
“Upon further investigation, it was determined that the fight took place in the half-moon ramp leading up to the Fifth Avenue boardwalk,” said Lt. Guy Thompson.
There was one stabbing victim found at the scene, according to Captain David Kelso. The police had information of a second victim, but a search of area hospitals turned up negative, Kelso said.
The incident is still under investigation by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, he said.
Police were called to the scene at 1:45 a.m. Saturday morning, according to the information provided to the Sun yesterday.
Staff at the Beach Bar witnessed no disturbances in the establishment that night, according to Beach Bar general manager James Douglas.
“We had no altercations in the bar the whole night,” said Douglas. Last call was at 1:15 a.m. and the music was off by 1:30 a.m., said Douglas. The bar was closed by 1:45 a.m. with only staff present, he said.
