The board of education at its Nov. 28 meeting created two new teacher coaching positions — an academic coach and school culture and climate coach.
The state mandated the position of school culture and climate coach, according to district communications director Christina Coloma. The full-time position will be split between the high school and the middle school, and will work collaboratively with the Regional Achievement Center [RAC] team, a group from the state department of education [DOE] tasked with implementing changes to improve the district.
The district has not yet named salaries for these positions or found people to fill the jobs.
A district speech teacher asked the board to reconsider creating the new positions.
“If you would like to create positions, I would love to be on a committee to collaborate,” she said. “But the last thing we need are more coaches to coach our teachers. We need reading tutors at the elementary level.”
