School principals will present goals to Bd. of Ed. tomorrow
Members of the community invited to attend
Asbury Park school administrators will outline their goals and plans of action for achieving those goals at tomorrow night’s board of education meeting.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Lamont Repollet, who signed a contract with the district in late September [shown above] and joined full time in October, said it is the first part of the process to hold administrators accountable.
Doing so in front of the public lends greater transparency of the process for school board members and the community-at-large, he said.
“I’m an action guy,” he said, adding he would like to see members of the community in attendance at tomorrow night’s meeting so that they are informed and can help hold the district accountable. “I want people to be there.”
It’s the first step in Repollet’s systematic approach to education reform in the city, which he outlined at the board’s September meeting.
Year one starts with accountability, from maintenance staff to school administrators, focused around three “essential questions,” he previously outlined in his first public address to board members in September. “How does it [the program, idea or precedent] benefit district kids? Does it bring honor and distinction to the school district and the community? And lastly, is it is fiscally responsible and feasible?”

Presentations will include looking at baseline grades set earlier in the school year, setting goals and outlining plans of action to achieve those goals, he said.
Ultimately, it is the district’s responsibility to produce college and career ready students despite any educational barriers they face, like high poverty and crime rates, he said.
Repollet is also looking to make more minor changes to the district, which includes updating the district website to make it more friendly to students’ families and other community members, he said.
The meeting starts at 7 p.m. in the second floor auditorium of the Barack Obama Elementary School, located at 1300 Bangs Ave.
