Sea.Hear.Now Sustainability
No Parking Zones, AP Complete Streets Bike Parking, & Reusable Drinking Container Campaign
The Asbury Park Police Department has announced no parking areas associated with the Sea.Hear.Now festival will begin 7:30 a.m. Friday and run through the inaugural music, art and surf event’s end on Sunday evening.
The no parking areas are:
-Ocean Ave between Seventh Ave and Fourth Ave
-Seventh Ave between Kingsley St and Ocean Ave
-Sixth Ave between Kingsley St and Ocean Ave
-Sunset Ave between Kingsley St and Ocean Ave
-Fifth Ave between Kingsley St and Ocean Ave
-Fourth Ave between Kingsley St and Ocean Ave
-Sunset Ave between Kinsley St and Webb St [south side only]
-Webb St between Sunset Ave and Fifth Ave
Officials said vehicles parked within these areas will be towed by the Police Department at the owner’s expense.
The City Council Wednesday passed a resolution to temporarily adjust metered parking rates in the waterfront zone to the $2 per hour peak summer season rate for Saturday and Sunday. The measure was done as an incentive to encourage alternative modes of transportation to the Sea.Hear.Now festival, which has a sustainability awareness campaign.
“Sea.Hear.Now is committed to raising awareness about the issues facing our ocean environment, including the global plastic waste crisis and climate change,” organizers wrote on the event website. “Pledge to do your part to minimize plastic pollution, lower your carbon footprint, and support sustainable business at the festival by signing up for the Sea.Hear.Now Green Wave.”
Festival organizers are asking the public to take the low-emission route to and from the festival: carpool, bike, walk, or take public transportation.
As part of that initiative the Asbury Park Complete Streets Coalition, in conjunction with Second Life Bikes, will be running a bicycle parking lot on Fifth Avenue next to Bradley Park behind the Wonder Bar.
Formed in 2015, the local group works to make every street in the 1.4 square mile community safe for all who use them, be it motorist, pedestrian, cyclists, skateboarders, etc. They are currently administering a bike light fundraising campaign to ensure all bicycles are properly lit.
Festival organizers are also asking attendees to go refillable by carrying reusable drinking containers. Manna Hydration will provide free, cool, filtered water at their station and have reusable commemorative festival Green Wave Tin Cups that will get users special discounts on cocktails at the bar.
In related news, Madison Marquette has announced Convention Hall and the Grand Arcade will be closed to non ticket holders from Friday night through Monday morning.
